Day 1 / 7
Chiang Mai – Phare - Phuruae
Distance 406 Kms.
After breakfast you cruise south from Chiang Mai on the super highway to Lampang, and then head East along the mountain road to Phare. First stop being at Ban Thapla and Sirikit Dam, then you continue along the scenic winding mountain road, and dine at a traditional Thai restaurant. After lunch you continue viewing scenery with traditional Thai villages and farmlands. During June and July at Dan Sai, the “Phi Ta Khon” festival is celebrated by young men dressed as spirits, parading a sacred Buddha image, teasing villagers and monks, reciting the story of Buddha's last great incarnation. From Dan Sai you cruise on a scenic mountain road, passing Thai towns until reaching “Phu Ruae” where you can relax in very peaceful accommodation.

Phuruae to Chiang Khan and Nong Khai
Distance 283 Kms.
After a good breakfast you are cruising to the Thai- Laos border, to Chiang Khan where the Mekong River divides Thailand and Laos. Lunch will be served at a Thai restaurant, where you have the opportunity to savor many delicious Thai – Isaan dishes. You continue along the winding road following the Mekong River, and along the route you relax at a beautiful three level waterfall. Your journey continues witnessing many Isaan Thai communities, on route to your hotel destination at Nong Khai on the banks of the Mekong River.

Nong Khai along the Mekong River to Nakhon Phanom
Distance 314 Kms.
After breakfast you head off along the banks of the Mekong River, observing an excellent view of the sun rising above the mountains of Laos across the river. Stop for lunch and meet local Thai-Lao people, then continue following the Mekong, visiting a local Thai temple and resting at a waterfall. You visit the house of Vietnamese leader Hồ Chi Minh, where he lived in exile during the 1928-29 revolutionary struggle for national independence. The Vietnamese village is a farming and trading village, and today the people Thai and Vietnamese. From the Ho Chi Minh house you are off to your hotel at Nakhon Phanom, where you enjoy the beautiful view of the Laos jungled mountains beyond the opposite river bank.

Nakhon Phanom to Mukdahan and Ubon Ratchathani
Distance 371 Kms.
After breakfast you are off to visit the most famous Isaan Temple “Watt PharaThat Phanom” which was originally built around 535 BC in Khmer style. The Pagoda 53.6 meters high, has a square base, which occurs only in the Northeast of Thailand. The top is mounted with 110 kg of solid gold.
You continue following the border until you reach “Kaeng Kra Bao lsland” which runs across the Mekong River , where you relax and have refreshments. You cruise on to Fah Mue Daeng (Red Palm) Cave, which is a rock shelter with six red palm prints, believed to be 5,000 years old. Lunch at a Thai restaurant, and then continue along the mountain road until you reach the National park where a beautiful waterfall cascades through a rock pipe. You visit a steep cliff overlooking the Mekong River, with a panoramic view of Laos on the other side. On the cliffs' surface, there are prehistoric paintings dating back 3,000 to 4,000 years, reflecting the ancient lifestyle of people who lived in the area thousands of years ago. You then head off to your Hotel at Ubon Ratchathani, where there is an abundance of handicrafts, such as silk ,cotton products, basketry, and bronze-ware. The people of Ubon Ratchathani have a unique folk culture, expressed in their indigenous cuisine, handicrafts, and traditional events such as the Candle festival held every July.

Ubon Ratchathani to Kamire Ruins and Nakhon Ratchasima
Distance 444 Kms.
This is a really exciting morning, after breakfast you are on a journey through the early morning bustle of small Thai towns and beautiful scenery, heading for the ancient Khmer ruins.
The first Khmer Ruin you reach is Ban Prasat Sanctuary, which comprises 3 brick pagodas with pointed tops on the same laterite base surrounded by a moat. The pagodas were built around the 11th century.
The second Khmer Ruin is a Ta Leng Sanctuary, which is a single pagoda, with one real, and three fake elaborately carved doorways on an elevated square base. The architecture and art of the pagoda dates back to around 1017-1087.
You continue touring through the fresh countryside, enjoying local Thai life along the Thai- Cambodian border. Lunch is served at a Restaurant where you can experience Thai “Isaan” dishes and friendly Thai hospitality.
After lunch you continue to Phanom Rung, which is without doubt one of the most breathtaking historical sites in Thailand, and highlight of this tour. The Khmer ruins are situated on the rim of an extinct volcano. 1,320 feet above sea level. The first vision you have is the magnificent staircase with three platforms leading to the temple, towering above the staircase at the hilltop, -- a magnificent sight. The stairs have bridges with Naga’s (3 headed serpents), and door lintels have many detailed carvings of ancient Gods.
From the Ruins you head for the second Khmer Ruin highlight of your adventure Khorat, which is also well known for silk weaving and pottery products.

Nakhon Ratchasima to Phetchabun
Distance 412 Kms.
After breakfast you head off to visit a famous Thai pottery village, from there you pass many villages and farmlands, until you reach the Ancient Khamer Ruins of the fascinating Phimai Sanctuary. The Architecture has inscriptions from different periods in history, indicating the building was constructed over many centuries. The latest construction estimated between late 11th to mid 12th centuries.
You cruise on until reaching an interesting archaeological Site At Ban Prasat, where you will see ancient human remains estimated to be 3,000 years old, included are various artifacts including ancient weapons, ornaments made of animal bones and shells. You stop for lunch, then descending the steep mountain pass with scenic views over the North of Thailand. At Petchabun you overnight at an excellent resort.

Petchabun to Chiang Mai
Distance 418 Kms.
After breakfast you head off along the Mountain road to visit a Royal Project Farm, famous for cultivation of cold weather fruit, vegetables, and many colorful flowers not indigenous to Thailand. Continue cruising along the scenic road visiting a waterfall along the way, where you stop for refreshments. Lunch is served at a local Thai restaurant. After lunch continue your journey on a scenic route to Lampang where you stop for refreshments and continue ride along the Chiang Mai - Lamphun’s old road with big trees along the way stop at nice temple at Lamphun. Continue cruise back to your hotel in the ancient Lanna Capital -- Chiang Mai
